Active from Mt Hobbs (just North East of Hobart).

6m, 2m, 70cm, 23cm, 13cm, 9cm and 3cm.

Hopefully we get some good conditions across Bass Strait, so VK3's beam our way

500km (310 miles) on the 2.4 GHz and 3.4 GHz Ham Radio bands!

Last night, 22nd of October the Hepburn charts had a prediction of strong to very strong tropo ducting enhancement over Bass Strait. I promptly got in contact with Rod VK3BQJ and Geoff VK3KGR to attempt a contact from Mt.Wellington near Hobart. Once I arrived after work (at approx 6pm) I could immed...

Re: BG7TBL GPSDO (GPS Disciplined Oscillator) and 10 MHz Distribution Amplifier

Hi Peter,
Sorry yes I should have clarified that the issue was with the distribution amplifier and not the GPS unit.

Thanks

Re: BG7TBL GPSDO (GPS Disciplined Oscillator) and 10 MHz Distribution Amplifier

Of note too Adam - and documented on the forum here elsewhere. The 10 MHz distribution amp comes in two variants, one with a OCXO and one without. Peter VK3QI in this post shows the issues with the variant that uses an OCXO. http://vklogger.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=13917&p=63614&hilit=bg7tbl#p63614 ...

BG7TBL GPSDO (GPS Disciplined Oscillator) and 10 MHz Distribution Amplifier

Need a GPSDO to compliment your new IC-9700 and keep it on frequency? The BG7TBL is a popular GPS disciplined oscillator available on eBay. Many amateurs use this as their 10 MHz reference for frequency locking radios. They come in two versions, one that is sine wave, the other a square wave. A hand...

Re: For Sale: SMA failsafe relays 18 GHz 28V

These are good relays. I have a few myself.

Was also lucky enough to pickup some that had 12V coils too at a bargain basement price a little while ago.

Mini-Kits High SWR

I posted briefly about this in another thread on here, but I thought I would add a new one. A local amateur has a transverter with a MiniKits EME166 sequencer in it. Long story short, when changing the coax cable between the IF radio (817) and the sequencer, it causes the SWR that is detected on the...

Re: FT-817 front BNC fault

Whilst not directly related to the title of the thread, I found this slightly interesting. Another amateur was having issues with their FT817 showing a High SWR message when plugged into a Minikits sequencer in a transverter from the rear connector on 70cm. This had not occurred before when using th...

Re: FT-817 front BNC fault

Ask yourself, will you ever use the front BNC? Most likely no, it's just a matter of annoyance of course! I only found out it didn't work the other day when I was going to use the front BNC on a small tape measure yagi for RDF. The connector was a BNC and I thought it was convenient to use the fron...

Re: FT-817 front BNC fault

Hi Peter, Yes I can hear it click. I haven't checked coil voltages. I can also confirm that the signal disappears from the rear connector when I switch it, so the relay is certainly switching. It's an interesting design, Yaesu must have thought that the front BNC would get more use than the rear SO2...

Re: FT-817 front BNC fault

Hi Lou, I did some testing again today. Checked connections, removed the board and reflowed them too. Still no good. I couldn't get consistent readings with my meter either. I then use my signal generator and popped one of the probes on the input pad to the relay (where JP3003 goes into the board). ...

Thanks Lou for the reply.

I’ll have a poke around tomorrow and see what I can find. You’re probably right, maybe a dry solder join or something
