VK3 Microwave Activity Day

Postby VK3HY » Mon Aug 22, 2016 11:28 am

Hi Ho Everybody

A VK3 microwave activity day is planned for this coming Sunday 28th August - from 10:00am to Noon AEST.
Activity will be centred on 3398.100MHz with 144.150MHz or mobile phone liaison if needed.

At this stage, there will be groups operating from Mt Dandenong, Mt Anakie and Mt Buninyong.
This is an opportunity for those who haven't had a chance to field test their GARC 3.5GHz panels.
Weather forecast for Sunday 28th is partly cloudy and 14 degrees but we VK3s are built tough!

Great job Gavin. Looks like shorts & sandals with knee high socks weather. I hope I can find my safari suit. :om3:

This is a reminder about the VK3 microwave activity day this coming Sunday 28th August - from 10:00am to Noon AEST.
Activity will be centred on 3398.100MHz. This is a great opportunity for those who haven't had a chance to field test their GARC 3.5GHz panels.
Liaison, if needed: VK3RGL repeater 147.000MHz 91.5Hz CTCSS; 144.150MHz SSB; or mobile phone.

So far we have indications that there will be at least 13 stations involved operating from various locations.

Mt Dandenong: VK3HY VK3MQ
Mt Buninyong: VK3AXH VK3CAP VK3IDL VK3BNC VK3KG
Mt Anakie: VK3ALB
Hamlyn Heights: VK3ZPK
Barrabool Hills: VK3PY
Kinglake area: VK3AV
Camberwell: VK3XPD
Hamilton area: VK3PP

Hopefully the list will continue to grow.

Weather forecast for Sunday is still partly cloudy and around 14 degrees - almost tropical! (I may have to have a word with Jane Bunn about this.....)

Thanks Gavin,

Also count VK3VLA and VK3ACG at my location. I will be bringing my 2.4GHz gear for a test contact with VK3AV but I'd be happy to work anyone else I hear on that band. A little bearded bird tells me the the VK3KQ crew might venture out somewhere and the pressure has been applied to the man at 12B Church St Bayswater to progress the maintenance tasks on his tower.

The VK3KQ team will indeed be out. Damian and I will be operating at Mt Ridley.

For those that don't know where Mt Ridley is (I didn't until yesterday) it's North of the city, somewhere near Craigieburn. Not particularly elevated, but we wanted a challenge.

"We choose to go to Mt Ridley. We chose to go to Mt Ridley on this weekend and do the other thing, not because it is easy - but because it is hard."

(With apologies to JFK)

Mt Ridley used to be a great place for astronomical investigation (ahem) and there was plenty of room to park your car. I think it's full of McMansions now. Is there any clear ground left?

Actually I don't know the answer to that Lou. I've never been there. Someone at work who lives in a nearby McMansion said there is still some vacant land and Goole Maps suggests there is some sort of parkland there - we shall have to see. :om:

Dah di Dah.
