AirScout - Airplane scatter prediction software

Hi Peter,

maybe this is associated with requesting plane data with wrong co-ordinates of the rectangle (MinLat > MaxLat, as you've decribed before).
Try to regain an IP address by cutting off your Internet provider connection for a moment.
I was able to keep the software running for hours without any problems.
Let's hope that there is no time or traffic limit on their website.

Regards,

Frank

Thank you Frank for the prompt response, I am on a static IP so no chance of getting a different address. No great drama as I will almost never be using this software at home.

Frank,

All seems to be working here fine - except the display seems to be about 1 minute behind FR24.

I note the URL at the bottom of the page has a parameter "faa=1". I read somewhere that FAA data is delayed - but I thought by 5 minutes - not 1. Could the "faa=1" switch be the source of the delay ?

Checked it here even with planes flying over Australia, there is no difference in plane position between FR24, Planefinder and AirScout.
Please verify that your PC clock is synchronized.
AirScout is calculating/estimating positions according to the PC clock, browser based apps doing that different way.

5mins delay over the US is true. But only the delivery of information is delayed. The timestamp of the position data set itself is OK.
If you set the TTL in "Options/Planes" > 5min and the plane is keeping speed and heading you will get rather exact positions even so.

if someone wants to join the testing community: please download the latest BETA version of AirScout by following this hidden link: http://www.airscout.eu/downloads/AirScout_V1_0_9_9.zip.
The new package is using an alternative plane feed. There is only few experience about the plane coverage, especially overseas.
As this BETA is quickly released some unexpected errors may occur.
Your feedback is highly appreciated.

Hello Frank,

Your Beta version is working like a charm, love the new features also.
Thanks for the quick fix.

Thanks Frank - that was it -

For some reason my faithful Abouttime PC clock setting app. had coincidentally stopped working (after many years of faultless service). It has been so reliable I didn't think to check. And I was fooled by FR24 being right on and Airscout being off. I assumed, wrongly, they would use the same chronological source. Anyway, whatever caused it, re-installing Abouttime fixed the problem.

Thanks !!!

Hi all,

it's done: AirScout V1.1.0.0 is now available for download. Please see http://www.airscout.eu. New plane feeds included as well as some other new features. As in previous versions users must activate the plane feed manually and must agree with the disclaimer on first run. It seems that the new feed has normally the same coverage as the older one but this is not guaranteed 24/7. There are no alternatives so far. Please download and checkout yourself!
Your feedback is always appreciated.

Have fun!

Is anyone having trouble with AirScout 1.1.0.0? My virus scanner has started deleting AirScout.exe every time I try to run it. Oddly it lets me run version 1.0.9.9

I've noticed that this version (or maybe the feeds) are a bit of a hit and miss.

Planes take a long time load, and sometimes just disappear mid flight, then re-appear a while later.

Also, comparing it with a VK3 when we were watching the path between us, the VK3 had planes appear on the path between he and I that I didn't have between me and him....

So I think the feeds are a bit of a hit and miss :(

http://droidapp.pinkfroot.com/APPAPIDRO ... ateFAA.php
For vk2asy the above

My Airscout (new version) is working fine and airplanes are showing up correctly versus Flightradar24.
I still have my adjusted airspace per my suggested fix (another forum article) implemented.

Hi Andru,

Thanks for the links, but it still doesn't show up any planes.

I copy/pasted the links you provided and I get the message '0 Positions updated' and looking at flightradar, there are HEAPS of planes that I can't see.

Any other ideas from anyone?

Can I suggest widening the "covered area"

Adjust the settings in the Options/General tab

Min Long 0.00
Max Long 155.00
Min Lat -45.00
Max Lat 60.00

Check the Options/Planes tab as below picture

Something came up this afternoon that made me realise that some of you may not have the version that is working for me.

I am using version 1.1.9.0

Not 1.1.0.0 that is listed in the downloads area currently on the airscout.eu site.

try http://www.airscout.eu/downloads/AirScout_V_1_1_9_0.zip

i just realised another setting which greatly changes the number of aircraft that you see.
Turning on all aircraft that airscout can see - not just the ones relating to your path.
On the main screen before you press the "play" button change the planes filter / max. circ. setting to -1
If necessary reset your min. alt. and cat. setting.
Too many settings taken for granted when you are not setting up from scratch.
You should start seeing lots of planes if you have completed all the other suggestions listed prior.
Screen shot attached.
