10 and 6 Dual band yagi

Postby VK4TS » Tue Feb 02, 2010 7:46 am

I had a ten metre five element beam that had been alongside the shed through several moves , the last time it was on air would have been during 1985...

Reading with interest the designs of DK7ZB http://www.qsl.net/dk7zb/start1.htm for dual band antennas using open sleeve techniques I thought this would be a good use for the old antenna - 3 elements on ten and 5 on six metres would make a handy antenna..

Andrew VK4HAM was very interested in the VHF Field day so an excuse arose to build the beast and try it out..with an afternoon spare we cut the old antenna into the new design..everything seemed fine and off to the FD site we went....of course in the best tradition of portable operating SOMEWHERE there is lying the reflector for 6 metres because when we turned up to the site it was not on the trailer.

The decision was to put up the antenna minus reflector but with the three directors. - How did it work ?

The open sleeve was quite narrow in band width but once tuned seemed fine...directivity was better than expected without a reflector..we worked VK2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 overall a pleasing performance...it seems as though the antenna will work as per a normal three element ten metre or a 5 element 6 M - with the increasing sunspot cycle I will be replacing the HB35C tri-bander at the home QTH with this antenna at about 12 Metres high..

The concept will work fine with a TH3 style tribander and will give great options for many with beams and new rigs that cover 6 metres that lack space for the extra beam..

DK7ZB is indeed a clever fellow.

The information is the same but a direct link to his site is:-
