Olivia on 6m

Post by VK4WDM » Thu Mar 03, 2016 10:06 pm

I have had a few 6m contacts on JT65 under weak signal conditions. Has anybody tried Olivia on 6m? Does anyone want to give it a go?

I'll give it a go Wayne, I'm a big fan of Olivia, have to scratch up some sort of decent antenna tough, the best option I have at the moment is a 40M dipole.
Although I have heard a surprising number of WSPR stations from around the country, I can probably do a lot better in the antenna department.

I'd be keen on trying Olivia, it has been on my TODO list for a while. I have a clear outlook north so working into VK4 on 6m should be possible from home.

Hi Wayne,

I have tried Olivia 32/1K on 6 meters with Wayne VK4WTN many times when I was living in Brisbane with great success.

Anytime you want to give it a go if you think its worthwhile give me the heads-up on the Logger.

You will find some 20M Olivia 32/1k on 14.1065 9 (usb) most afternoons abt 1730hrs ur local time to set things up.

I worked Phil (VK5RM) on 6M on 31st Jan this year on 6M.

Couldn't see it on the waterfall but it still decoded.

If someone was to call CQ on 6M using Oliva , What frequency would they be on ?

Hi Wayne,

I think vk4wtn and I just used 50.225 when we did Olivia 32-1k.

OK, lets see if we can get a few contacts, my radio is on 50.291 USB @ 1500Hz on the waterfall Olivia 8/250 for starters. Move to 32/1000 if signal level is sufficient.

Phil,

50.225 would be too close to the Meteor Scatter freq. of 50.230 .
You and I made contact on 50.090 , which is close the the suggested freq from the link supplied by Crompton of 50.086.5 but that falls outside the suggested window in the AU band plan for digital DX modes of 50.220 to 50.240.

So , how about 50.235 for Oliva 500/16 with and an audio marker of 750hz, and 1000/32 and 1000Hz.

OK sound's good to me. I will keep and eye on the logger spots and when you guys down Sth are hearing VK4RTL I will put a signal out on 50.235 for Oliva 500/16.
