Re: Icom IC-9700 users topic

Hello. would like to confirm the Rx coverage on 144 for a 9700 from some one that has one in front of them, is it strictly 144-148 or does it tune a little bit outside of the published limits, the reason I ask is that I regularly listen to the 143.050 French RADAR off the moon and losing that would ...

Re: WSJT USB Audio Sources???

from the WSJT-X dev forum.. Black Michael via wsjt-devel 1:58 PM (59 minutes ago) to WSJT, Black We've seen this problem before and it has something to do with corrupted registry. Only possible solutions known at this time: #1 Uninstall USB devices and reinstall -- has fixed some #2 Install another ...

Re: WSJT USB Audio Sources???

Hi Adam, that is a curly one, so there is an output device but no input device, still sounds like device security even though I know in my head there should be none on Win 7 for those devices. . . Do you by any chance have JTDX installed any where or MSHV as they are both based on the WSJT-X base co...

Re: WSJT USB Audio Sources???

Hi Adam hang on a second, the audio and the virtual serial devices are two different things.... the virtual serial is what needed the icom driver originally (I think Win 10 finds them without the driver, it does for my 7100 and 7600) and the audio devices are a separate thing and need no such driver...

Re: WSJT USB Audio Sources???

Hi Adam, as a long time user of WSJT and now WSJT-x I have never seen what you have described occur, I do know there were some security changes to windows sound devices that stop applications trying to hijack the camera of microphone (malware protection) it might be the case that Win 10 needs to be ...

Re: What's on your Workbench?

Hi Hayden, if you think the Eltech is loud, try one of the HP 3KW PSU's that were popular for powering LDMOS amps (I have two PSU's here) they are LOUD all of the time, so have recently changed to using the eltech units and now I can actually hear the dog when it barks. :D Very good video Adam. The ...

Re: Grounding the Ham Shack

Hi Dean, the copper tube method should work I think, can not think why not, had not really thought out of the box for my setups although I did use car battery leads from the 3 tower legs to the three earth rods at my place. They were relatively cheap from a national car parts place and gave me a hug...

Re: Grounding the Ham Shack

Hey Dean, it is force of habit to say copper, these days there are a selection of conductor types but copper while expensive is still good bang per buck... my advice if to shop around the big electrical places (where the contractors go) for part rolls of cable that they do not want, the proverbial s...

Re: Grounding the Ham Shack

Hi Dean, if you can find a way, please run a copper connection between tower earth rod and shack earth rod, this will stop the two earths getting to different potential when the ground is poor (most soils in VK). If you have a near by (not direct) lightening strike, the two locations will have diffe...

Re: Grounding the Ham Shack

Hello Dean, the answer all revolve around what gives you the path of the least resistance so distance between items in the chain are the key points here to be considered. To have the earthing bar nearer the equipment, you need to have a single (or multiple in paralell) larger diameter multi-strand c...

Re: Loss of ABC Shortwave put fishermen at risk

The HF vertical shower service at Katherine would have been audible with a crystal set :D but the BOM services are a lot further south and as others pointed out probably not the 50 or 100 KW that the old vertical shower services ran at. These services gave fantastic coverage during their service and...

Re: WSJT-X MSK 144 Meteor Scatter

Hey Rob, this is what I understand happens (I am happy to be corrected by those who have a better handle on this), in the hours as we approach dawn local time, our position in the daily spin of the earth becomes the point where maximum closing velocity between on coming objects (in or close to our o...

Re: VKLink Repeater Linking Project

Hi Hayden, could the hardware be adapted to be and end to end VOIP like for getting audio to and from a remote site? we have a 2M and 70cm repeater we would like to link so maybe this is the way to do it as both locations have ethernet onto an ISP's internal network. I guess then we could graduate t...

Hmmph, looks like the P.A on 50.456 has failed, signal is back to exciter levels here at home... 144.456 is going all okay so unsure what has happened.

Re: VK5RBV to come back at Full steam

Feb 10th update

50.456 MHz (15W) and 144.456 MHz (12W) were turned on at the Mt Kitchener site today. The 144 beacon was on previously in 2018 but had been off since Nov 2018 to allow me to add the P.A for 50.456.

Re: VK5RBV to come back at Full steam

Feb 2019 update. 50 MHz beacon is on-air doing heat soak tests from my home QTH (5 KM from beacon site). getting the 50 MHz section going has taken a lot of my time and energy but hope to have it at the propper site over the weekend of 9 - 10 of Feb. This will see 50.456 and 144.456 on air with 15 w...

Re: Solar powered shacks

Hi Igor, had a pair of toroids with 15 turns of heavy enamel coper wire on the inputs, no caps yet as have nothing suitable on hand.. Toroids will not do much unless multiple turns are used. All my green caps / polyester caps have been rescued from old boards and unsure of the max volts, as solar ca...
