Re: Lurking 101

I guess I am a "lurker" too. Not from any need to "keep stuff to myself" or not share or anything else, but because I have had very little time to devote to ham radio in the last couple of years and what time I do have is spent editing the CQ-DATV magazine. But I still like to see what others are up...

Re: Electric Blanket EM Field - When it's turned off

Going back to 2012, Homemaker blankets were on a recall notice, not because of what you are experiencing though. See notice here: http://www.productsafety.gov.au/recall/kmart-homemaker-electric-blanket-re-announced-pra2011-12679 In fact, if you go through the recall lists, quite a lot of electric bl...

Re: Electric Blanket EM Field - When it's turned off

These are the standards electric blankets need to comply with: Class specification: AS/NZS 60335.1 and AS/NZS 60335.2.17:2004+A1-2 (until 26 October 2015) or AS/NZS 60335.2.17:2012. That information came out of this - http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/pdfs/Businesses/Explanatory_notes_and_declaring_...

Re: Check You License Renewal

The ACMA website used to be amongst the worst and least intuitive I'd ever come across. The new one is no improvement, a tech-savvy teenager could do better. a non-tech-savvy teenager could do better. Seems to be the way of high end commercial and government websites these days, make it as hard as ...

Re: Help!!...NBN Interference

I wouldn't mention the T.O. to your ISP. 2 reasons - the support person you talk with on the phone couldn't care less about the T.O. (they hear it all the time) and it only gets their backs up. - there is a specific contact person at the ISP that deals with T.O. complaints, the T.O. should give you ...

The legislation relating to antennas, aerials and towers in Queensland is the Building Act 1975. Copy here: https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/legisltn/current/b/builda75.pdf Note that there is no specific mention of antennas etc in the act. The associated regulations that specifically mention anten...

Considering this comment in the description, it's one I wouldn't touch with a 40ft barge pole.
Kit parts needs its own debugging, and installation procedures photos, debugging instructions, I have limited time does not provide advice, do not understand those who buy with caution

Re: FT7-57GX Tx Audio Problem

The below text file lists the most common failures in the FT757.

I think diode failure may be the problem in your case (it does constitute the most common failure mode in these rigs).

Re: Tasmanian oak spreaders for Moxan beam?

Don't paint it, oil it with linseed oil.

It will waterproof it and is less likely to succumb to the ravages of the sun.
Also stops the wood drying out and cracking.

Does mean that you will have to take it down and re-oil it periodically.

Re: What's on your Workbench?

DSCF0777.JPG These appeared from somebody's cold dark storeroom a few days ago and landed on my bench. Top one is a Philips School Radio/Pa system. The bottom one, not sure, but possibly a pre-1960's Bland Radio PA/Radio/Gram unit. Once the weather cools down some, I'll check them over to see what ...

You don't indicate what voltage, but RS has a few http://au.rs-online.com/web/c/semiconductors/power-management-ics/low-dropout-voltage-regulators/?searchTerm=low+dropout+regulator#esid=4294958470&applied-dimensions=4294577231 While the LM317 isn't, as you rightly state, an LDO regulator, the LM1117...

Only your insurance company can answer that, so ask them.

Oh, and get it in writing.
