Re: "Drones" and Advanced AR Licence?

Actually it's not illegal. There is a lot of confusion around MAAA Guidelines if you want to fly under their coverage you need to ensure you comply with those. If you want to fly outside is those guidelines then CASA rules apply for model aircraft - neither preclude the concept of FPV. If you want t...

Lol. Just think of it as the price of legal compliance :)

You should be able to lift 1 kg easily with any of the hobby grade 450 size quads. Sub $500 dollars.

SDR and radar podcast

For those that are interested in this type of thing, great episode on the amp hour with Mike Ossman of HackRF fame. Covers his online SDR course and the coffee can radar. Enjoy.

I bought into the hackRF kick starter. It took a little longer than promised but did get built and you can buy online as well. As others have said, do your homework up front

Re: Help on video over 5.8GHz

The more the merrier as they say. My next step is building a diversity Rx for 5.8GHz using a 13dBi patch and RHCP omni. Initially going to use the ezOSD from immersion RC to drive the pan/tilt although it has started to strike me as a lot of work to get almost as good range as 1.3GHz out of the box.

Re: Kickstarter for SDR - 30 MHz to 6000 MHz

12 days to go and has reached the stretch goal of $400k.,,, If we reach $400,000 in pledges, I will adapt my two day Software Defined Radio class into a free online video series. I've been teaching my class to small groups at information security conferences for a few years now. Most recently I taug...

Kickstarter for SDR - 30 MHz to 6000 MHz

Hi all, I came across this the other night - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mossmann/hackrf-an-open-source-sdr-platform . I have been thinking of getting a TV Dongle for SDR but they are somewhat limited; I really like the range of the unit and was wondering if anyone else has looked into it? T...

Re: Help on video over 5.8GHz

Hi Dave, I am interested in multirotors as well; currently have a DJI with 5.8GHz FPV (100mW), GPS and 2.4GHz Tx. Only flying LOS distances(typically no further away than 250m but thats more than enough; if you can fly LOS then FPV will be easy, the only disconcerting part is when you fly towards yo...

Re: Help on video over 5.8GHz

Hi, thanks for the quick replies. Using an On-Screen display, I can put my call in the video stream so that would satisfy the requirement for identification. My understanding of LIPD devices is that they must have a "CE" tick and none of the ones I have looked at meet that requirement so irrespectiv...

Help on video over 5.8GHz

Hi All, I am newly licensed and am having trouble understanding what the legalities are around what I want to do and hope the collective wisdom here can help me. First some background, my other hobby is RC modelling and one growing part of that hobby is First Person View (FPV), where a video camera ...
