Re: NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

Jayson, The model that came with my mast is a brake winch (orange coloured thing). You can see them here - https://www.nbsantennas.com.au/antennas-and-parts.html I have just wound mine up a little and yes indeed you can hear the pawl clicking on the internal toothed gear. }:[ So no different to your...

Re: NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

Mine has been in place since October 2015, is exposed to the weather and the dust that comes from living on a dirt road in a rural area and the brake winch makes no noise at all when winding. I also keep it wound down when not in use. I do like the idea of using a socket and drill to raise and lower...

Re: Gridpacks - wire or cast ally grid?

Andy, Have a look at the image at the base of that web page to see the 23cm gridpack. They do have a different feed arrangement to that used on the 2.4GHz item. They are 900x600mm. I also have one and they work a treat. I have used it portable with an SG Labs transverter. At home, I have a 30-el yag...

Re: 13cm across Bass Strait - 7th January 2019

Sadly nothing heard at my end other than VK3PY (S9) and VK3LPL. I had 70cm and 23cm running on different radios in case I heard anything, whilst getting back to work (from home) after the break. In any case have a look at the Hepburn chart for this coming weekend... Likely to make the VK7 path for t...

Re: Your licence is due for renewal but

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but there is a reason... One of my licences was due for renewal in mid-May 2016. I had received the 'do you still want this' letter from the ACMA and subsequently the Licence Renewal Notice. This I paid via BPay on 3 May 2016 - some 10 days in advance of the payment ...

Parks n Peaks is really a tool to advise of planned activity and spot current activity by operators. It covers SOTA, WWFF and VKFF activations, VK3 Keith Roget activations, SA Parks activity and so on. It also displays Spots that have been created on SOTA Watch and the opposite direction too. A grea...

Re: IC-7300 - Software Defined Radio

I imagine that Icom JA would require its authorised distributors to purchase stock from the local distribution arm (Icom Aust) therefore the wholesale price and RRP would be set by them. After that the retailer can chose to follow that guidance or drop margin. Whether those price is realistic in the...

Advert on vkclassifieds from RF Solutions...$2065 + freight. Less than I heard would be the expected market price.

Re: 3.4 GHz QSO Party

I would like to mirror the comments from others about the activity. Well done Lou, Chas and GARC. I had a set-up issue at the start and did not plug in the Bias-T correctly hence no transmit. That is why I specifically missed 3MY and 3KQ early in the session. Then I could hear folk but waited my tur...

Re: NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

Thank you Peter for the info. What is in the ground now is staying there most definitely. I really don't want to dig it up because around this area the ground is currently like concrete and has cracks. When the trench was dug it was all mud. There is not much in between as we are on the ridge line. ...

Re: NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

Thanks for the suggestions re getting another pull cord down the storm drain pipe, Bob and Roger. I can see how that would work really well. Agreed re not getting in the way of the line either as it is shot down the pipe. I have taken my own advise :) and ordered a roll of the Telstra approved rope ...

Re: NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

When I had the hole for the mast drilled I had a trench cut as well. I placed a 90mm storm drain pipe (Bunnings) into the trench with a couple of 45 degree bends to bring it out of the ground near the mast. The heliax is not real flexible so the tube was assembled around the heliax and pull cords an...

Re: NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

Richard, The device that I used to hang the cables is here - http://www.abeytrade.com.au/product-category/bolted-clips/brackets-extensions/ it is the "Nut Clip Standoff Bracket". What I did is invert the bracket as shown and screwed a 100mm or so of timber to it with slots cut in one side. I had a r...
