Re: 23 on 23: Tuesday July 23rd 2019

I will be on FM, having arranged to borrow and Alinco hand held. Will put out calls on 1296 FM as well as work the VK4RMC repeater.

Re: 23 on 23: Tuesday July 23rd 2019

Hi Adam,
I don't have 23cm capability in the shack just yet (am planning on ordering an SG Labs transverter in the not-too-distant future) but will alert Wal VK4CBW to try contacting you via VK4RMC 23cm FM on the night. He does have the capability now and is new to the band.

I plan to be active on 2m SSB and FM at the aptly named Pooh Corner Nature Reserve, VKFF-2878.

Has the interference problem been sorted out? Do we still need the DCS of 143?

Re: 2019 Summer VHF-UHF Field-Day Contest

I will set up my portable station (FT-817 and VHF Packer 6m 30W amp), SSB and CW on Saturday from 0100 UTC Saturday morning on Mt Coot-tha. I will be in the 8 hr section but probably won't be there all that time. I will also have 2m/70cm FM hand held listening on the usual calling frequencies.

Re: Video: What is SINAD and overview

Hi Adam. Strangely enough I happened to have watched this video only yesterday. Most interesting. And he does have one of the best channels on you tube! Second only to Dave Jones's. (EEVBLOG).

Re: 23-on-23 - building activity

I am following this thread with interest. I have no 23cm equipment so have never taken part, but what I observe here in VK4 in general is in sync with your experiences with 23 on 23. I am involved in SOTA, being the administrator for VK4 and participation here is also dismal compared to the southern...

Linux software to record grid squares?

I am running Ubuntu 11.10 and would like to know if there is any software to record 6m grid squares worked. Any ideas?

JT6M

Is it possible to operate on this mode with a 6m vertical antenna? Don't have a beam just yet, only the vertical.

TNC for Packet

I am keen to get involved with Packet radio on 2m and 70cm FM and want to know more about the TNCs. Are any available as software only (and if so where?) or are they hardware devices only. I haven't come across any, but would prefer a software-based one is any are available.

Re: Feederline question

Thanks Owen, as always, I appreciate your input. I will attend to that on the weekend and report back. May have to redesign my antenna arrangements somewhat. I guess it is all about compromise if you don't want your home to look like an antenna farm!

Feederline question

I have always been able to trigger the Gold Coast 2m and 70cm repeaters with my FT-7800 from the shack here in Brisbane (as well as other local repeaters). I use a dual band vertical Antenna with 3.5dB and 6.5dB gain respecrively. This is fed with a short run (about 10ft) of RG213. Recently I instal...

Who monitors the FM calling frequencies?

Every day I put out a cq on the 2m and 70cm national calling frequencies and, apart from during contests, have never, ever heard anyone there. I certainly have never had a response. What gives? Does everyone just tune in to the repeaters? What's the point of having dedicated calling frequencies if n...

PSK31 on VHF/UHF

Is PSK31 possible on 2m and 70cm FM? My rig (FT-7800) has a data port so I was thinking this could be a good way of pulling weak signals in if it were possible. And if so, is there any acvitiy happening with this mode on FM?

What is the furtherest qso you have had?

What is the longest distance you have reached using FM simplex? Mine is 104.89km using 5W hand held. I had a great vantage point at the time up ontop of Mt Coot -tha in Brisbane. This was a 2m contact. My record on 70cm FM is 20.2km. I aim to better these at the next competition when there should be...

Re: 2007 Spring Field Day

I will definitely be on 2m and 70cm FM from the shack. There is a slight chance I will get out and operate 2m FM with a hand held but the 8 hour stretch is a bit of a mission at this stage. Don't think my 6m rig will be back from the workshop in the States by then; if so I will also be on 6m SSB.

Increased activity on Gold Coast repeater

G'day, I have noticed increased activity on the Gold Coast Mt Tamborine repeater lately. I believe the GC club have linked it to echolink and other local repeaters so that we now have a pleasing footprint in this SE corner of Queensland on 70cm. I was recently talking to an op via VK3 as well as one...
