Re: VK1RGI seen in QF56if

I am glad people are seeing 1RGI. I have had it on AE using spectran and I am collecting WSJT wav. files which I will send to Glen.
Over the weekend I was getting VK2RSY on 1296.420 with a terrible buzzing sound T1. Is it them or me?

Re: VK5 Microwave Road Trip

Similar here Hayden. There was an announcement that VK5ZD would be operating from Mt Ainslie in Canberra yesterday evening. As far as I can tell nothing eventuated. Nothing on the logger either.

I will not be available for this month's 23 on 23 because of a continuing debilitating medical problem.
Maybe in March!

Re: What's on your Workbench?

In the air actually.
I need a low noise 6m antenna to hear the South Americans. I thought I would try an LFA design to see how it goes. So far so good and plug and play 50 ohm match. The only problem now is the missing South Americans. Maybe 2019!

Re: What's on your Workbench?

Thanks Lou. I will have a look at the website.
The usefulness of the antenna is that I can stick it at the mouth of my 1296 septum horn and the dish and check the local WiFi QRM problem if any. If it looks OK I will make up a septum horn for 13cm.

Re: What's on your Workbench?

SG Labs
I have just received a box from Bulgaria containing a 13cm transverter, a small PC board 13cm antenna (free!) and a couple of plugs. Nothing else and no documentation at all.
Is this normal?

Re: 2018 Spring VHF UHF Field Day

I am afraid I will be away for the FD. My intention was to provide a big signal on 1296 but I will not be back until late Sunday. At least I will be available for the last pass of the ARRL EME contest on Sunday night.

Re: Wyong Field Day 2016 - Impressions

The flea market seemed better than last year, helped by the absence of clapped out computers. My beef is that it opens too early and is cleaned out by locals and traders who re-sell stuff on E ham. The organisers need to consider that most people come some distance and they will not come if the stuf...

Re: VK3UM Silent Key

Very sad news about Doug. He was the life of the party at the Prague and Cambridge EME conferences and always at Gippstech. I have been working towards 23cm EME and had hoped to make an early (CW of course) contact with 3UM. Too late now. Peter Freeman, we need to have VK3UM Port available at the ne...

Re: Green Interference!!!

I tried LED lights purchased cheaply at a Wyong field day some years ago to replace halogen 50w lights running off 12 volt iron cored transformers. S9 hash everywhere of course. Capacitors across the pins of each LED made no apparent improvement. After some trial and error testing I now use Philips ...

Re: Operating Practices That Annoy

Well take that, Jim. Whack! Perhaps people are not getting the 'haitch" joke. One neologism that always amused me was the term "working conditions" to describe your station, which I seem to remember is a transliteration from Japanese. So it works both ways. I am waiting to hear people ask "copy that...

Re: Need Blower info for AM17

To cool a pair of 4CX's you need 0.8 inches (say 2 cm) of back pressure. This can be easily measured by making up a simple manometer with a length of clear plastic tubing coupled to the grid compartment in the amp (through a convenient screw hole). Pressurise the compartment and see what the water l...

Re: Is EME worth a go?

ON4ANT once got a partial decode from me in 2002 on 50MHz EME. I had a temporary 9 el yagi up for the occasion and was running 100w on JT44, the precursor to JT65.

So it can be done.

Re: John Moyle Field Day 2011

I did not have much of an opportunity to give out a few numbers, but I could not notice how many 144 SSB field stations would call "CQ from VK2burble burble portable" once only , no phonetics, and portable where?. I suspect the club field stations give 144 SSB microphone to repeater operators. A gre...

Re: The QRM is back... typical

I once had a problem with severe QRN on 50MHz from a backpacker lodge up the road. Using a portable receiver I found it was a noisy 240V leakage monitor. I played the operators the sound from the monitor and told them it was "dangerous radiation". The unit was quickly removed. Try it.
