Re: Satellite ops with IC-9700

Hi Adam, It can be a bit tricky. What I usually do is if the sat is free (no qso's in progress) I'll start transmitting and tune my rx to hear the downlink. BUT, if I find a qso is already under way I'll tune the other stations in, then when I tx I'll adjust my tx so it's on freq to them so we're al...

Holly molly they are small.

I find keeping away from coffee for the day keeps the hand nice and steady too

I didn't realise that you were hand assembling them, Adam!

Re: Icom IC-9700 users topic

G'day Peter,

I can confirm it's strictly 144-148MHz.

I was hoping that it would go down low enough to monitor the GRAVES radar, but sadly it won't.

Re: WSJT USB Audio Sources???

That is very strange. Is this on windows or linux? The only two things that comes to mind is maybe another device was using that com port when trying to get wsjt working, or maybe wsjt doesn't see com ports above a certain value - I see your 9700 is on 30/31. Would it be too much of a pain to reshuf...

Re: Icom IC-9700 users topic

Reading what Mark (MiniKits) has said, it sounds like there isn't any electrical connection (wires/jumpers) to any part of the circuit board on the 9700. The coupler is just soldered to the top of the txco can. How would that actually 'lock' the txco if the coupler isn't electrically connected? Pass...

Re: Icom IC-9700 users topic

I've just updated the firmware to 1.10 and now at least I am getting decoded on 2m WSPR running 10w, but it still has drift, which could be multiplied on 70cm and 23cm to the point of no decodes. It does seem that they have decided to sync to the 10MHz ref every 250ms or so, rather than locking the ...

Re: Icom IC-9700 users topic

I just received the following email from one of the iogroups. No sign of the new firmware on the 'Icom World' site yet. Apparently it's on the Icom Japan site though. The "Sync to REF IN" function is added for the reference frequency adjustment' sounds very promising!!! ************ Firmware V1.10 f...

G'day Matt/Hayden,

Do you have any links to the design or info on the bpf? Was it homebrew or commercial?

Cheers

Re: Icom IC-9700 users topic

SatPC32 Settings. For those that like to play sat's, the port and config setting for the IC-9700 to work with SatPC32 are different to those needed to run WSJT-X. Probably due to the fact that SatPC32 and WSJT-x don't currently have official support for the IC-9700, rather you need to fool WSJT-X in...

Re: Icom IC-9700 users topic

My first impressions is that the 9700 seems to be more sensitive and selective compared to the ts2000 with transverter for 23cm. This afternoon I was hearing the 2m geelong and gippsland beacons (with no apparent troppo conditions) when I'd normally wouldn't hear them in the afternoons on the ts2000...

Re: Video: IC-9700 VHF/UHF/1200 MHz Base introduction

Me either, just not worth the risk.

Hopefully it can be implemented in a firmware update, or at the most a case of unplug a cable and plug in a different ref source, similar how the IC7300 has the IF tap.

Re: Video: IC-9700 VHF/UHF/1200 MHz Base introduction

It is disappointing. In stock form it may not have good enough stability to be used on most the weak signal digital modes. There has been talks on one of the iogroups that looking at the service manual that it appears that the hardware is there for the LO to be locked to the ref freq, so it may be a...
