Re: FT-817 DC Input Socket

I just use a small piece of sheet aluminium to hold my FT-817 connectors in place.

Re: Hand keyed Morse clarity

What regs are you referring to?
There is no requirement to send or receive morse code for any of the amateur licenses.

SSD Failure

Just a heads up for anyone that has a SSD in their PC/Laptop, make sure you have a backup. The most common failure mode for 'conventional' hard drive (i.e. those with a spinning discs and read/write heads) is for the disc surface to degrade resulting in file corruption. While this can be annoying yo...

Re: 13 cm calling frequency.

In VK5 we use 2400.15MHz or 2400.2MHz. The band plan is a suggestion, not an actual license condition, and I'm happy follow the band plan where practical. However, as has been noted, there is a lot of WiFi 'crud' around 2403MHz and above. Secondly, the only amateur satellite using 2.4GHz that I'm aw...

Re: New from Analog the ADF4371 62Mhz - 32Ghz Synthesizer

Apologies I got the model number slightly wrong. Search for CMA382400AUP which is the full model and there are a few on eBay for US$56 at the moment. If you buy one of these from 'total_parts' ebay seller then ignore his comment about it requiring 12v at 4A. That is guaranteed to kill it. T...

Re: MAD - Sunday March 24, 2019

Further to my post of the 26th, that's not to say that we didn't try to extend some records, sometimes successfully, sometimes not (no VK4 records were harmed :D :D :D ). However, we did not do this at the expense of making other contacts. Surely one aspect of this hobby is to try pushing the limits...

Re: MAD - Sunday March 24, 2019

The BVHFG's schedule, if there ever was one, completely revolved around the VK5 road trip. Perhaps the VK5s should have been in town a day earlier to fit in with the planned VK4 Activity Day? If there was a schedule we were not aware of it. We were in town the day before as we had originally assume...

Re: MAD - Sunday March 24, 2019

Then throw in the current episode with the VK5's (only here to break records nothing to do with MAD) and it was even more crazy. Don't know why you would think that. If all we wanted to do was have a go at breaking records then we could just as easily do that in SA and not bother to drive 6,000km. ...

Hayden (VK7HH): I can only apologise as things did not go to plan at our end. The night before we decided that I'd go to Mt Buningyong so we could try a long haul 76GHz contact fom Mt Donna Buang. Dave and Tim went to Mt Donna Buang in the morning as planned only to find that the trees had grown sin...

VK5 Microwave Road Trip

David (VK5KK), Tim (VK5ZT) and I will be doing a tour which will include visits to VK1, VK2, VK3 and VK4 during the week from the 15th to the 24th of March. The main purpose of the trip is to work as many people as possible on the microwave bands, in particular the mm wave frequencies (i.e. 24GHz an...

Re: Microwave Operator Survey

Just in case they're watching and haven't run an inventory yet I can think of a few missing operators. Most of these have systems 10GHz and below but I know some have at least 24 & 47 VK2DAG, VK2ZRH, VK3HZ, VK3KH, VK3NX, VK3QM, VK3TU, VK3YFL, VK3XPD, VK4UH, VK4MIL, VK4REX Thanks Lou I've added reco...

The list has further updates.
It seems a bit silly to upload the file here each time it changes so the latest version can always be obtained here:

Re: Microwave Operator Survey

Here is the list so far. Please note that some of the information has been obtained from sources other than the operator (e.g. VHF-UHF Field Day results) although I'm ignoring stations that only have 1296MHz as there are loads of them. If you see something that's incorrect please let me know. If you...

Microwave Operator Survey

Hello all Myself and a couple of other VK5 operators are contemplating a road trip in a couple of months which will take us to VK2, VK3 & VK4. We will have microwave equipment with us and would be looking to make contacts along the way with particular emphasis on the millimetre wave bands (24GHz and...

Re: FT8 on 2m

I think 144.320MHz is the frequency of choice in Oz (and 432.320MHz for 70cm).
You're likely to find SSB activity on 144.174MHz, especially during contests.

Re: Attaching aluminium insect mesh to grid pack dishes

We hope to do an actual flat-field evaluation of all of the gridpacks in the coming weeks but only at 2.4 and 3.4 at this stage (no 5.7 or 10GHz gear working as yet). I know this is an old post, but did you ever do the comparison between the antennas? I'd be interested to know your results. The lim...
